Napoleon Freestyle™ 425 Gas Grill
The Freestyle 425 is where Napoleon’s entry-level lineup steps up a notch — one more burner than the Freestyle 365, a wider cooking surface, more total BTU output, and the same graphite grey design and all-terrain wheels that make the Freestyle series work for real outdoor spaces. It’s a compact, well-made gas grill that consistently earns strong reviews from people who just want something that works, cooks well, and doesn’t require a lot of maintenance.
Four Burners, More to Work With
Four stainless steel tube burners produce 38,000 BTUs across a 425 square inch primary cooking surface — enough for up to 26 burgers on the main grate at once. The warming rack adds 146 square inches above the primary surface for a total of 571 square inches. Four individually controlled burners give you the flexibility to run different heat zones simultaneously: high direct heat on one side, lower indirect heat on the other, or a combination that suits whatever you’re cooking.
The step up from the Freestyle 365 is meaningful in practice — a fourth burner and a wider grate translate to more flexibility in how you set up each cook and more total capacity when you’re feeding a group.
Cast Iron WAVE™ Grids
Napoleon’s porcelainized cast iron WAVE™ cooking grids are one of the Freestyle 425’s standout features at this price point. Cast iron holds heat better than the thin stamped grids found on cheaper grills, producing more consistent surface temperatures and more defined sear marks on everything from steaks to chicken to vegetables. The porcelain enamel coating resists rust and makes cleanup easier, extending the life of the grids through years of regular outdoor use.
The WAVE™ shape maximizes food contact with the hot cooking surface, keeps smaller items from falling through, and delivers those clean, defined grill marks that separate a properly cooked piece of food from one that just got hot. It’s a detail that matters every time you fire up the grill.
Even Heat, Fewer Flare-Ups
The porcelain enamel sear plates beneath the grids work in two directions: they distribute heat more evenly across the full cooking surface, and they vaporize drippings before they reach the stainless steel tube burners below. The result is fewer flare-ups during a cook, better flavor from the vaporized drippings, and longer burner life over time. It’s a system that runs quietly in the background of every cook without requiring any attention.
Built for the Way You Actually Use a Grill
The rugged all-terrain wheels make the Freestyle 425 genuinely portable. Most compact grills roll fine on a smooth patio and get stuck everywhere else. The Freestyle’s wheels handle grass, gravel, uneven pavers, and any other surface your outdoor space throws at them — making it easy to reposition the grill wherever you need it without wrestling with it.
The folding side shelves expand for prep and staging during a cook and fold flat when you need to reclaim space for storage. Both shelves include integrated tool hooks that keep tongs, brushes, and accessories within reach. The built-in bottle opener on the side shelf is a small detail that gets used more than most people expect. The enclosed cart design holds the propane tank safely inside the cabinet, keeping hoses and the tank out of the way during cooking and storage.
JETFIRE™ battery-free ignition lights each of the four main burners individually with a direct jet of flame — no batteries to replace, no repeated clicking. The ACCU-Probe™ temperature gauge in the hood gives you a reliable read on cooking temperature throughout the cook, so temperature management stays easy and accurate. The cool-touch handle makes lifting the lid comfortable regardless of how hot the grill is running.
Graphite Grey Finish
The Freestyle 425’s graphite grey porcelain enamel finish is one of its most commented-on features — it looks cleaner and more premium than most grills at this price point and resists fingerprints and greasy smudges better than glossy black or brushed stainless. It’s a finish that holds up well to outdoor exposure and keeps the grill looking sharp through a full Michigan season.
Propane or Natural Gas
The Freestyle 425 is available in both propane and natural gas. Propane runs off a standard tank stored inside the enclosed cart. Natural gas connects to a permanent outdoor hookup via the included quick-connect hose — a cleaner, lower-maintenance setup if you have a gas line available. Our team at Fireplace Gallery can help you figure out which fuel type works best for your space.
Warranty
The Freestyle 425 is backed by Napoleon’s 10-year warranty on components — solid coverage for a grill at this price point and a reflection of Napoleon’s confidence in how it’s built.
