The signature of the Phoenix SD Series sits underneath the cooking grid: a heavy-duty cast aluminum drip pan positioned directly over the burners. As heat rises around the pan, it cooks food with virtually no flare-ups, which means fewer scorched burgers and more consistent results, cookout after cookout. That same pan does double duty as a built-in steamer. Fill it with water before you cook, and the rising steam keeps everything from vegetables to fish moist and tender. When you’re done, a galvanized bucket and solid brass valve make draining and cleanup simple, no scrubbing a baked-on mess off the burner box.

The dual stainless steel burner runs independent controls on each side, putting out 25,000 BTUs across a temperature range of 250° to 500°F. That range covers low-and-slow cooking on one side while you sear over higher heat on the other, giving you two effective cooking zones without needing a second grill. Across the 400 square inches of primary grilling area, there’s enough room to cook for a full table without crowding the grid.

Cast Aluminum End Caps, Stainless Steel Everywhere Else

Where the SDRIV Series leans into an all-stainless, riveted build, the SD Series uses cast aluminum end caps on the grill head for added stability, paired with a stainless steel or aluminum column and a solid cast aluminum base. It’s a construction style that holds up well to the swings in humidity and temperature that come with a Michigan lakeshore season, while keeping the grill lighter and easier to move than an all-stainless unit. Two stainless steel drop-down side shelves give you workspace for platters and tools, and rubber wheels on the base mean repositioning the grill for a bigger gathering, or rolling it into the garage before a fall storm rolls in off the lake, doesn’t take a second person.

The SD Series is available on a column base, which encloses the propane cylinder for a cleaner, more finished look, or on a deck and patio base for setups where a freestanding, easy-to-reposition grill makes more sense. Both configurations come in liquid propane or natural gas, so whether you’re running off a tank or already have a gas line to the patio, there’s a version that fits your setup without extra modification.
